Craft for kids to unleash their imagination!

If you have children in your house, then you must be familiar with Dav Pilkey and his Captain Underpants and Dog Man series. The series are adored by children (and some parents) for their child-like illustrations and silly humor.

Who is Dog Man?

Dog Man is a spin-off from the series Captain Underpants. In the series, the main characters, two little boys George and Harold are avid comic book artist and use their art to faces their daily challenges at school. Dog Man is one of their creations materialized in an actual book. In the series Dog Man, a police officer and his dog get into an explosion in which they are both severly injured. In a effort to save them, doctors come up with the clever idea to combine the head of the dog and the body of the police officier to save them. And Dog Man is created! Now he must protect the city from all the villains!

The Art of Dog Man

What my kids love the most about the books is how funny it is. Although some parent might dislike the potty humor and the intentional misspelled vocabulary, it is still approach story telling in a creative manner. For example, some of the situations and characters on the book are real life creations made of clay of paper. This is how the Munchy Bag came to existence.

Who is Munchy?

In the 9th Volume of Dog Man called Grime and Punishments, a paper Monster comes to life when it is sprayed with the Spray of Life by the former villain's dad, Crud. In the actual book, we can see the monsters made of paper in a card board model of the city which is pretty cool. I like that aspect of the book so much because the author Dav Pilkey invites the readers to picture the story in different spaces and dimensions.

How to make Munchy

At the end of the book there are specific directions on how to make Munchy, the monster bag.

Your Munchy is done! We followed the story and sprayed our Munchy to bring him to life! (We just used a hair spray so it’s not toxic for the children). How fun to play with Munchy!
